Why do your Level 1 CBCT course online, in your own time

In 25 years in dentistry I've seen a pattern repeat: the CBCT goes in, the team learns the buttons, and the formal training gets postponed. Not because anyone thinks it doesn't matter, but because a traditional course usually means a Saturday away, travel and sometimes a lost surgery day. That's why at 360 Visualise we built our Level 1 CBCT course to be done online, at your own pace. Here's why I think that's a better way to do Level 1 for most busy clinicians.

Why Level 1 matters

If you refer patients for CBCT, or your practice has a scanner, UK guidance expects you to have Level 1 (core) CBCT training. It's the grounding in principles before anyone moves on to reporting. I explain the requirements in do I need a CBCT reporting course to use a CBCT?

1. No lost surgery days

An online course costs you no clinical time. You can fit it around the diary: early mornings, a cancelled appointment, an evening. No travel, no hotel, no Saturday away from family.

2. Short sessions that pick up where you left off

The 360V course is designed for short sittings. Twenty minutes at a time works if that's all you have. It saves your progress, so you stop where you stopped and pick up there next time. Learning in short chunks also gives the material time to sink in.

3. A clear structure

The course is split into nine modules, which unlock in order:

  1. Introduction
  2. Justification
  3. IR(ME)R
  4. Referrals & GDPR
  5. Physics & dose
  6. Resolution & field of view
  7. Anatomy
  8. Artefacts
  9. Cases

That covers what a referrer and operator need to understand: when a scan is justified, what the regulations put on you, how dose relates to voxel size and FOV, normal anatomy in three planes, and why scans go wrong.

4. Check yourself as you go

Each module ends with a short quiz, and there's a final exam drawn at random from a question bank. If you don't pass first time, you can resit. You find out what you've understood rather than just sitting through slides.

5. Verifiable CPD and a certificate you can prove

The course gives verifiable CPD mapped to GDC development outcomes, and a numbered certificate that can be checked online. That makes it straightforward to keep your training records up to date for IR(ME)R and for inspection.

6. One purchase, lifetime access

You buy the course once and keep access. There's no subscription. Being able to go back to a module before you report a tricky scan is useful long after you've passed.

7. The whole team can do it

Each person needs their own account, because certificates are personal. That means referring dentists, operators and anyone else involved can all train to the same standard without closing the practice for a day. 360V also includes free places on the course with CBCT scanners it has supplied. Check the course page for details.

What online Level 1 doesn't replace

Level 1 teaches the principles. Reporting a full CBCT volume is a separate skill, best learned hands-on with an expert. That's what our in-person CBCT Level 2 reporting course at Octagon House is for, led by Consultant Dental & Maxillofacial Radiologist Dr Ed Walker. Our online Level 1 qualifies you for the Level 2 reporting day, just as an in-person Level 1 course does, so you can do the groundwork at home and then come to us for the hands-on day.

FAQ

Is an online Level 1 CBCT course acceptable?

UK guidance sets out what Level 1 training should cover rather than requiring a classroom. Check the course content and CPD meet your needs and keep your certificate.

How long does the 360V Level 1 course take?

It's self-paced and split into nine modules that you can complete in short sessions. See the course page for the CPD hours awarded.

Does Level 1 let me report CBCT scans?

Level 1 covers the principles. Reporting the full volume needs further (Level 2) training or an appropriately trained reporter.

Does the online Level 1 qualify me for Level 2?

Yes. Either Level 1, online or in person, qualifies you for 360V's in-person Level 2 reporting day.

Can my whole team take it?

Yes, but each person needs their own account because CPD certificates are personal.
